Abraham Lincoln


Abraham Lincoln had a very vital role in the Civil War. He was very influential in the ending of slavery. He was a big part of getting rid of slavery during this time period. Abraham Lincoln was known for giving very important speeches during this time period. Two in particular, the Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclaimation. The Emancipation Proclaimation was given on January 1, 1863 it says that all slaves are free within the Confederacy. This was one of the first speeches given by a president that some people began to believe in the rights that slaves had. The other speech given was the Gettysburg Address. This was also a very well known speech. This speech was made after the battle in Gettysburg, Pennsylavania. In this speech it says that ,"Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure." -Abraham Lincoln. This means that we need to come together as a country and stand as one. There are other reasons why Abraham Lincoln is a very Influential person during the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln is known for giving african-americans civil liberty. He was a hope for all different races. He was one of America's best Commander in Cheifs. He is also responsible for the formation of the Republican Party. He was also very strong. He took a lot of criticism from people who wanted slavery but he stayed with his mind and got done what he wanted. Those are just some of the reasons why Abraham Lincoln was one of out best presidents. He was one of the people who shaped America to be what it is to this day.
